Friendship Center was founded by the Community Action Commission as a day care pilot project for elder and dependent adults in a small church, The Friendship Baptist Church (hence, our name). As our program grew, the All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church offered us a larger space in 1979. We are licensed by Community Care Licensing as an Adult Day Care Center, social model, with the goal of providing social contact, activities, meals and supervision for the dependent adults who attend our program, and respite, or a break, for their family caregivers.

We have seen over the years that many of our participants live in the Goleta/Noleta area, which is 10-17 miles from our Montecito location. Consequently, we decided to expand our program by opening a satellite Friendship Center location in Goleta.
