Ellen joined the FC team in March 2020, right as our services were needing her wisdom and guidance more than ever! Ellen was born in Inglewood CA and later moved to Santa Barbara to attend San Marcos High School and SBCC. She left to finish her degree in Community Health and Education at SDSU- never intending to return to Santa Babrara , except to visit her folks who were still here. She bilingual in Spanish- mostly from working in Latin America, but she also took Spanish as a minor in college.
Starting in 1973 Ellen lived and worked in Latin America on vaccination teams and in refugee camps. She returned to the US and settled in Tucson and, other than Graduate school, lived in Arizona for the next 24 years. She has her Master’s of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary and is ordained in the United Methodist Church. She has worked in 4 congregations over 15 years of congregational care. After living in Oregon for a few years, Ellen and her family returned to the sunshine of California. She then worked for the Public Health Department as Assistant Deputy of Community Health while also supporting her mother at the end of her life.
Ellen and her husband have two adult daughters of whom they are extremely proud, with one currently at UC Berkley and the other at Pacifica in Montecito. Ellen’s husband, Phil, supports recently housed people and families at the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara. Ellen and Phil have a tandem bike and love to take long and short rides together. Ellen commutes by bike as much as often as possible and she loves hiking with her wonderful dogs.
